Growth Opportunities

DRC offers significant opportunities for international merchants who want to expand their e-commerce business into new markets. Here are few among others:

● Driven primarily by a young and urban population, DRC’s e-commerce is expected to rapidly grow, with an estimated annual growth rate of 17.3%. One of the reasons behind this is the rapid internet adoption. With 83.5% of current users joining between 2015-2020 signals that wide internet penetration across DRC will become a norm swiftly.

● While only 15% of DRC’s population have a bank account and less than 2% have access to a credit card, people are increasingly paying electronically. Thanks to huge investments in telecom infrastructure, already 71% of DRC’s population over 15 years old, have access to mobile phones.

● While access to Bank accounts (15%) and cards (1.5%) is low, Mobile money payments are widely used – over 35 million people are already using it for their daily transactions.

Today, DRC is one of the fast growing e-commerce markets in Africa and offers huge potential for international merchants both for digital and physical goods.
